Pew Pew Pixel (Space Battle)

This PictoBlox project lets the user shoot and eat healthy food to earn points while avoiding and eliminating bacteria. Successfully shooting healthy food twice will earn you 2 points, gaining 1 health boost whenever  healthy food is hit, while shooting a germ will earn you points! However, health will be deducted if the germ is not eliminated, depending on where the germ hits. Press the spacebar to fire a medicine missile, which will change its design every time you press any key on your keyboard, and wave your hand in front of the camera to move your rocketship🚀. Enjoy!

About the game

Basically Space Battle but you use your hand to control the rocket/fighter jet/yet to be confirmed through the AI Image Recognition.

How I created it

This PictoBlox project uses AI body part recognition to sense the player’s index finger and move the rocket, as well as clones and variables to make the game more fun and immersive. I hope you enjoy it!

To kick start the project, I focused on how I would move the things in the game to immerse the player, using the x and y axes for the movement of the rocket, and integrated the Human Body extension to analyse the image and set the rocket’s x axis to that of the index finger of the player’s hand, allowing the rocket to move side to side! Did you notice the background changing? This was used to create the illusion that the rocket was zooming through space, making it as immersive as possible.

As for the rest of the controls, pressing the spacebar will create a clone of the medicine missile (at the current position of the rocket), which will move upwards. Another way clones were utilised in this game is the enemy germs. Every 2 seconds, a germ clone will be created at a random spot at the top of the screen, moving down until they reach the bottom of the screen or come into contact with a medicine missile or the rocket! Then, the clone would be deleted, and points would be added or deducted from the variables in the point system according to the situation. A similar method was used for the healthy food, which serves as health boosters as well as chances to win points. However, the healthy food would glide to a random spot based on their current y axis and a random x axis after you shoot them the first time, making it more challenging, though the gains if you successfully shoot it are worth it. Successfully shooting healthy food twice will earn you 2 points, gaining 1 health boost whenever healthy food is hit!

Besides that, when the player reaches a certain number of points, they will move on to the next level, where it is faster and harder to score. In level 3, the germs also have resistance, which makes them harder to defeat as they are more strong and need to be shot twice.  The players will learn a fun fact about germs and medicine while going to the next level, making it an educational experience too!

Variables (Health and Score) were used for the points system as shown below, making the game more fun for the player. Try seeing how many points you can get within a fixed period of time, challenge a friend, or anything in between. All the best, and have an awesome time playing! 🌌🚀🌠
